Admission to vocational training institutions is now conducted through a unified electronic system

For the first time in Lithuania, a unified electronic reception system is used in the country’s universities, colleges and vocational schools. From 2010 until this year, the electronic system was used only by the country’s higher education institutions. Vocational training institutions conducted the admission procedure on their own, at vocational training schools.

A new Description of the procedure regarding persons’, wishing to acquire the first qualification, admission to vocational training schools, in which the state as the owner’s rights are implemented by the Ministry of Education and Science, was approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania on 17 May 2017. It mandated “the Lithuanian Higher Institutions Association for Organizing Joint Admission (LAMA BPO)” to organize and conduct Joint Admission to formal vocational training programs for the first qualification.
This year, the Joint Admission involves 19 universities, 21 colleges and over 70 vocational training institutions.

The major admission to vocational training schools, launched in accordance with the plan for the year 2017 for admission to state-funded vocational training programs, which include nearly 800 vocational training programs of various levels providing 120 qualifications, approved by Legal act of 19 May 2017 of the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania, will run from 1 June to 18 August. If there are still some places available, an additional admission of applications will be announced, which will last from 31 August to 6 September.
During the major admission, applicants will be able to choose up to 5 training programs, while during the additional admission – up to 3 training programs. In contrast to entering higher education institutions, the sequential order of the chosen training programs is not important. Each candidate’s request will be evaluated, and the candidate will be informed whether he meets the requirements of the program.

This year, entrants will be able to choose the newly developed or updated modular vocational training programs. In Lithuania, the admission to the newly developed or updated modular vocational training programs was launched in 2015. Then students were admitted to 6 such programs, in 2016 – to 32 programs, and this year, the admission is conducted to 48 modular vocational training programs.

The signing of the contracts with applicants of the major admission, who received an invitation to study, will take place from 25 to 30 August, and with applicants of an additional stage – from 12 to 15 September 2017, in vocational training institutions.
In order to ensure the efficiency of the system, vocational training institutions appointed persons who advise and help students to register in the electronic admission system.
